Our Elders
Role of Elder
As a congregation in Presbyterian Church (USA), we are governed by both Ministers of Word and Sacrament and Elders. The role of Elder has important biblical roots (e.g. Exodus 3:16, Deuteronomy 25:7, Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5; see Acts 20:17; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 John 1; 3 John 1 ). Elders serve on a leadership body called the “Session,” which works closely with the Ministers to govern the life and worship of the church. The role of elder is taken very seriously, requiring a process of discernment and training: “Elders should be persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and world.” Elders are ordained as a lifelong role, but they serve as active elders on the Session for terms of 3 years.
