Ministries

We seek to become a visible, tangible witness to the goodness and diversity of God’s creation. We believe that God’s calling is the root of all ministry. Thus, we live into our own vocation as we invite others to find their vocation among us.

Ministries that reach inward

  • Wednesday Night – Wednesday night bible studies are about listening to the Biblical texts and listening to each other. Everything we do on Wednesday nights is done in the hope of being reshaped in the image of Christ. We work toward worship on Sunday and are equipped to faithfully witness to Christ in our lives.
  • Congregational Care – At St. John’s, we affirm that love for others in our congregation cannot be separated from love for our neighbors. As we reach out to invite others to join us, we reach inward to know and love one another more intimately and deeply. Friendship, love, acceptance, and accountability are the simple goals of our congregational care. Our ministries of congregational care reflect our belief that the responsibilities of love and care fall equally on the pastoral staff, elders, and church members.
  • Arts Ministry – Led by Rev. Fred Wise, our Arts Ministry was established to renew worship and the church through artistic practice. Our hope is to develop a new way to live our Christian faith through creative expression, both within the context of worship and in our daily lives. Accessing our creativity is a way to bring worshippers out of passivity and into a full realization of their callings in the ministry of the body of Christ.

    • Community Garden – A membership-based community garden is at the heart of our community ministry. We seek to form new and transformative friendships among God’s people, encourage healing and abundance through healthy earth, healthy food, and healthy people and provide radical hospitality by sharing the gift of our congregation’s land with all who are in need. Through our garden we will find new opportunities to worship and celebrate God’s good creation.
